For folks going to PAX Aus this weekend, me and Ribbongraph will be racing Crypt of the Necrodancer at the speedrunning stage at 9am on Friday (assuming my flight is on time...). Come say hi!

Someone complained that the xkcd Dependency comic is unrealistic because it only shows one critical dependency you've never heard of.

However, it all makes sense once you realize it's actually a fractal:

Hey @Texan_Reverend, I'm working on a Mastodon bot and reading API docs, I see this thing called an "admin announcement". As far as I can tell when you have things to say about the server (eg. maintenance) you generally just make a normal post. Out of curiosity, do you consider this other kind of admin "broadcast" to be too heavy handed / unnessecary, or under what circumstances would you use it? #KindSocialMod

The countdown has officially begun:

My current level of stupid tech hacks:
I have an audio file of white noise playing at 1% volume (inaudible) in a loop. This prevents my headphones from turning themselves off due to inactivity when I pause my music for too long.

Update: Solved!
If you go to a user you follow and open the menu, there's a "Mute" option. It's not made clear, but this *only* affects your home timeline (I think? It might also affect local timeline. But definitely not lists.). This is exactly what I wanted.

Just figured out how to use #lists on Mastodon in a similar way to how they work on twitter. On Mastodon, you can't add people to a list if you don't follow them. The trick is to follow them, add them to a list, and then mute them on the home timeline. Voilà.

So, I have one or two folks I follow that are VERY active and tend to drown out my home feed. I've worked out that I can put them in their own list, but it seems that to be in a list they also need to be followed normally. Is there any way I can make a view of "everyone I follow except this one account" without needing to manually add anyone new that I follow to an "All my follows but one" list?
