Observed these vermilion flowers? Fruiting bodies? growing out of lichen on a rock during a walk in Wester Ross. Each scarlet dot is about 1.5 - 2mm across. Never seen anything like it before.
#mosstodon anyone know what they are?
Grey mounds are dead sphagnum, they should be bright green. They look like boulders. A succession of dry springs has dried them out.
#ClimateChange #MosstodonThis cluster of teazels in the garden is surround by Red Admirals, except of course when I the shutter is pressed....
With about the same already destrigged in the freezer, we're only half-way through the picking. It's hot, and we've decided to leave the rest of them to the birds. Besides, there is only so much redcurrant jelly one can use in a year.
The ermine moth caterpillar loves the leaves of the spindle bush and spins protective webs as it eats them. I love the contrast of the grey webs with the bright yellow honeysuckle and the pink hawthorn blossom.
Mid-November, Northern France. This is nice, but not right.
This is a picture of the three layers, to the right is the mud "torchis" of which the wall is made, then the sand and lime basecoat or "gobetis", and on the left the main render coat which is made of chopped hemp straw ("chenevotte") mixed with hydraulic lime - so it starts to set with water and it will get harder by carbonation from the air over the next few months.
So today we have been putting up lime and hemp render on the back of one of the outbuildings. We used a richer mix (more lime to hemp) than the instructions suggested, because it wasn't sticky enough otherwise. A leaner mix will be a better insulator when it comes to doing the main house next year so we'll have to work out how to get it to stick. Practice and push harder I think. It still needs a finishing coat, when it is dry in about a week.
