Dr Rena MaguireToday is Nollaig na mBan - women's Christmas. A tradition which did not make it to the north of Ireland due to British colonialisation, but it is alive and well southwards on the island.
After Christmas, women who had been busy making everything perfect for everyone else held their own festival. No men allowed. It's back in vogue - apparently hotels chalk up decent post-Xmas profit on get-togethers.
Some make special cakes, and I suspect drink may also be imbibed ;)
