And there we have it. Karē Raisu - Japanese Curry - from scratch, so without any of the readymade curry cubes so popular in Japan (no offence - for a convenience product they are good).
Enjoy.
And may the taste be with you.

While my black eyed peas dish is entirely vegan (and delicious), I am also roasting a beef rib roast. It was purchased from a wonderful Cleveland butcher shop that is #womanowned and #trans friendly.

I love being able to support such a cool local business, and the people who work there are awesome.

Also, support #localfarmers

Well, it's in the final simmer stage, and it smells and tastes wonderful. I followed Samuelsson's recipe fairly closely, but for the berbere I add a few touches: a bit of tikur azmud (nigella), some white peppercorns, and some korerima (Ethiopian cardamom), and ajwain (abesh). Also, I used malted fenugreek, which smells and tastes very different from raw.

There's a tradition in the U. S. to eat black eyed peas on New Year's Day. I suspect that it's descended from a West African tradition?

Anyways, I'm making BEP following this Marcus Samuelsson recipe. Smells heavenly.

The pastry is the perfect consistency of being crispy but not overtly so even on the reheat. This combined with the sugar crystals generously added on top means that the texture is a perfect meld of crispy, crunchy and soft bun. 💃💃 Would happily buy these again when I visit London. Maybe actually try one as soon as I buy it so the initial freshness and warmth can be more accurately experienced. 👩‍🍳♨️ I've also heard amazing things about their dessert bun range. Vegan? There's also a vegan cinnamon bun too! They do savoury too but my heart is always aligned towards sweet treats! 🍬💖 #LondonEats #LondonPastry #LondonBun #CardamomBun #CinnamonBun #ElsaEats #ElsaEatsLondon #BunsFromHome"
