✉️📮 We're recalling @[email protected] boss Simon Thompson after doubts were cast over the accuracy of statements he made last week to us.

"There is an increasing corporatisation of these kind of attacks happening in this country. Just this week we have the first police killing of a climate activist. There are now 15 peaceful climate activists charged with domestic terrorism."

There’s a very lengthy backstory to Nadhim Zahawi’s HMRC settlement, and lots of people have been asking me to summarise it. Here goes:

There's a very lengthy backstory to Nadhim Zahawi's HMRC settlement, and lots of people have been asking me to summarise it. Here goes: 23 June 2022: I fired a Freedom of Information Act request at HMRC to establish if any Ministers are under HMRC enquiry. I was initially told at at least
Buried deep on the BBC website. Would be a shame if more people clicked on it to bring it to the fore.

I'm not an elected official. I don't have any money or power. All I have are my brains and my voice. But at least I had the tits to call out tech companies.

I've been speaking and writing lately about how tech companies try to shift the discussion on misinformation, polarization, harassment, etc., away from the systems and structures that are inherently toxic and toward questions of individual behavior.
This way they can blame their own users for any pathology and steer clear of calls for systemic change.
Today Elon Musk has come through with a perfect illustration for my future talks.
New documents show that despite red flags from employees, big tech companies like Twitter refused to rein in or clamp down on pro-Trump social media accounts in the lead up to January 6th - while at the same time censoring and removing anarchist, antifascist, and left-wing accounts during the George Floyd uprising.
"Congressional investigators found evidence that tech platforms — especially Twitter — failed to heed their own employees’ warnings about violent rhetoric on their platforms and bent their rules to avoid penalizing conservatives, particularly then-president Trump, out of fear of reprisals."
At Facebook, the company's head on 'dangerous organizations' stated that broader action against 'violent rhetoric' would have resulted in taking down “much of the conservative movement on the platform, far beyond just groups that said ‘Stop the Steal,’ mainstream conservative commentators.”
Once again - big tech has two sets of rules. One, for autonomous anti-capitalist and anti-fascist groups, which are censored for speech and engaging in legitimate organizing, while the Right and Republican party gets a pass in fomenting violence and an authoritarian coup.

Great summary video on how Elon turned Twitter into a chaotic circus.
How is he even saving it from bankruptcy if half of the big advertisers still haven't come back - and no-one seems to be buying Twitter Blue?
