EBRAINS is a research infrastructure providing tools and services which can be used to address challenges in brain research and brain-inspired technology development. Its components are designed with, by, and for researchers. The tools assist scientists to collect, analyse, share, and integrate brain data, and to perform modelling and simulation of brain function. EBRAINS’ goal is to accelerate the effort to understand human brain function and disease. Login on www.ebrains.eu

We are excited to announce that the second keynote presentation of the #EBRAINSSummit2025 will be given by Professor Onur Güntürkün from Ruhr University Bochum!

A cognitive and comparative neuroscientist, Prof. Güntürkün investigates how complex cognition arises in the brain, asking questions like: “Can different brains produce the same cognition?” and “Why are brains asymmetrically organised?”

His presentation will take place on 10 December.

A particular eye-catcher: the exhibition designed by the Cécile and Oskar Vogt Institute for Brain Research in the foyer of the lecture hall with historical exhibits from brain research. Video presentations on the digital research platform EBRAINS and the Jülich exascale computer JUPITER show what the future of neuroscience, supercomputing and AI could look like.

In his welcoming address and in the panel discussion moderated by Wolfram Eilenberger, he explained the challenges Europe faces in this field and how politicians must respond to them - always bearing in mind that ethical aspects must be taken into account.
Thomas Lippert, Rainer Goebel and EBRAINS Joint-CEO Katrin Amunts provided the scientific background. A special highlight was the visit of Roberto Viola, Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology at the European Commission.

An all-round successful Hector Fellow Academy science evening at the Kunstsammlung NRW in Düsseldorf!

Several hundred guests on site and via livestream gained deeper insights into the changes that the rapid developments in neuroscience, supercomputing and AI have brought about in our understanding of the human brain and the medical and technological opportunities associated with them.
