Trump doesn't understand that the behavior that got him into office only worked because other people were maintaining the guardrails.
A toddler can get away with a lot of screaming, smashing and biting, but only as long as the adults in the room are shielding them from the consequences of their own actions.
Once again, we see the limits of Trump's view of power.
If you want to influence someone's decisions, they need to believe that you'll deliver an outcome they care about. Whether the outcome is a reward or a threat, that *belief* is power.
Now no one believes the US will abide by our commitments, and we're losing our ability to convince countries not to build nukes.
The 13th Amendment banned slavery, but it included a carveout sanctioning it as a punishment for people convicted of crimes. Many state constitutions include the same loophole; seven states don’t pay anything for most prison jobs.
