@gruber My wife puts a tub of these (dark) in my stocking each year. They are gone before new years.

They completely ruined Reece’s for me. Or perhaps Hersheys did that!

@marcoarment thanks for the tips! I’ll probably start small with the cheaper one and just PLA. If we’re into it we can eventually upgrade!

@marcoarment my 10 year old daughter is saving her allowance to buy one, so I’ve told her we could split the cost. She’s thinking the Bambu A1 mini, and I think she may want to go up in size to the A1 full (or I will). We will almost certainly use Tinkercad as she uses it at school.

Which printer did you get? Worth upgrading to an enclosure or adding an MDS? I’m thinking about starting cheap so we can see if the hobby sticks.

@atpfm @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment Hey, thanks! Just got here in my queue!
@atpfm @siracusa @caseyliss @marcoarment Car company logos were conspicuously absent… next month Neutral crossover special?

@overcastfm hey Marco, my wife and I experienced position loss bugs in overcast this morning both on iOS 17. Our episodes restarted even though the UI had time left on them. Happened multiple times. I sent logs from her account. Please let me know if you need any help reproducing it.

@bigzaphod years later i taught a graduate level iOS programming course for non design majors and the biggest challenge was the disparity in ability. Those who had played with computers all their lives wanted harder assignments and to jump right to the part of making cool stuff.

The unfortunate kids who didn’t really “get” the language or the tools started the class at a complete disadvantage. They weren’t learning iOS, they were learning data structures.

@bigzaphod I did CS in Massachusetts from 2001-2005. When I started they had just introduced a Java intro class as an alternative to the C++ based one.

CS had the highest drop rate of any major. Most people dropped out in the first year, after they slammed hard into the C++ data structures class.

The labs were all Unix workstations. I remember feeling way behind because I was a Mac guy. It took years of professional development before I adjusted to the CLI.

@sindarina @dstan @BenRiceM I bet that’s why Apple emphasized the anti-fraud protection at launch. By using generated numbers and passcode/faceid, they can have a lower fraud rate than a physical card, so the processing fee can be lower if they can show a reduced cost (and then keep more margin). And I bet they don’t eat the chargebacks: that’s what the 2.x% going to the CC companies is for.
