We're a group of avocado enthusiasts scattered around the Cascadian lowlands, attempting to breed a cold-hardy avocado that can grow here. Posts are by the lead organizer, based in Seattle on occupied Duwamish land.

@librarianshipwreck I'm in this post and don't like it
@rachael it was also very cold last night (down to 26°F here in West Seattle), so lots of ice and the snow that did fall all stuck
@james does it count as alive before coffee
@seatek @andy_amd yeah, and unfortunately it's likely that will continue and worsen, from what little I understand of the climate models
@seatek @andy_amd scroll down here for the link to the charts (also shows snow pack, and gets updated weekly):

@seatek @andy_amd Seattle at least is a bit below long term average so far this water year, but not too bad, and last year ended up way above normal because of the wet winter and spring. Hopefully as climate systems continue to break down we will keep getting our rain (and mountain snow) season.
@litakelley @coriander it's absolutely a shame we don't have foundational principles for society that prioritize fundamental rights like the right to strike, to housing, to healthcare, but that's what happens when the ruling class write the rules!
@mtobis I don't think that's what Clarke meant by indistinguishable from magic, though? We cannot even conceive what billions of years of advancing understanding of the universe could yield. Computers could be based around higher dimensional structures that we don't even know exist today, rather than switches in little boxes. Sure, it's science fiction of the least science-y sort, but that's necessary for any discussion of what extremely advanced technology would look like.

If rail workers do end up engaging in a wildcat or otherwise illegal strike, PLEASE remember that strikes are meant to be disruptive. If you see someone talking about the rail strike and how it's having such a huge impact, say things like "Yeah, it's crazy how much of our economy relies on them. That's why they deserve good health care."

Don't give in to anti-labour rhetoric. Combat false narratives. Solidarity Forever.
