It finally happened! After several years of scanning the trees in my local patch, I finally found not 1, but 2!!!! Long-eared Owls. I hope they will stick around for the winter so I can get some decent shots.

Lots of great guesses! This is a Blackpoll Warbler, and one of the key features that is visible in the quiz photo are the orange legs and feet.
 Here is a photo of the same bird just a few seconds before the quiz photo.

Maybe not best practice, but this Red-breasted Nuthatch and accompanying troupe of chickadees followed me a long way down the trail before I finally offered my hand. I’ve seen chickadees do this before, but this was my first time seeing a nuthatch this curious!
I just can’t get over how it checks me out for a couple wingbeats before finally deciding it was safe.
