Very tangential thought that inspired - this is part of why I hate "Originalism" as a judicial philosophy. As Justice Marshall explained, "it's a *constitution* we are expounding." Living organisms, like our country, can't be allowed to putrify.
(I also dislike "originalism" because it allows judges to be authors who self-insert themselves into the story as Framers.)
The new-community energy on Mastodon is fun. As I just mentioned on a thread by @hrheingold, it's always exciting at first. My high school history teacher told us that "today's reform is tomorrow's corruption."
But that doesn't mean that we should never embark on reforms. It means we can never stop reforming. Because old ways will rot or calcify.
