Knights had petty power, due to their proximity to the real power of kings and nobility. Sometimes a king might know how to use a sword, but the most powerful kings did not. They knew how to secure the loyalty of knights.

OK, I recognize that the #Democratic party is only superficially #progressive, while actively #neoliberal, but is the Republican party—no less neoliberal—actually #reactionary? Or are they just pandering to and/or fomenting reactionary populism among the electorate?

“The American people voted for…”
No they didn’t. The next presidential administration will take office with the votes of about a fifth of all Americans. That is not “the American people.”
Never mind that casting a single ballot once every two or four years for one of two pre-selected candidates from among US elites—essentially a gussied-up straw poll—cannot possibly encompass the full complexity of consent and preference.
Overheard in #SiliconValley:
"Kamala's not qualified, but Trump just won't shut up! It's not going to affect us either way."
Why do you want a candidate who needs to "shut up?"
