A lot of weird stuff you'd never think can be real.

@matthewbdaly Because of appeal to authority and bad prioritization. Some think it will lift their social status if they show it to others. They assume it looks like "I could, can you?".
@GeorgeStyles Some people have their brains way behind their big mouths.
@lyssasphere Just had to tell one guy "let's bypass the smalltalk ritual and go straight to the business". People don't like being caught red-handed. If they really care - let them buy me something real. I'm not in need of anything but I despise people pretending like they care.
Small talk is very toxic thing, people that really care never use it. Instead they do real things for you.
@jameschip If company can't trust me being remote and can't identify me as good person worth trust, I don't won't to work for this company. 3 hours of commute is 600$ worth of my time - can't do it for no payment. Competent company that doesn't practice micromanagement should be able to hire remotely, period. If it's a company that doesn't trust employees and contractors - we have nothing to do together.
@jwtraphagan Prisons and jails are also microcosm of how world operates in a very compressed way. Think of international borders as prison walls and authorities as shift officers. They have hierarchies, wars, gangs, groups, competition and cooperation, ethics and rituals.
@jwtraphagan @minogully @lyssasphere Mostly yes, but there are exceptions as always. I know those who prioritize their own fantasies and are ready to go far enough to chaise them while being blind to people around them.
@jwtraphagan @minogully @lyssasphere But again it's not social media that comes first, it's the people that come first, and medium used is not primary factor.
@jwtraphagan @minogully @lyssasphere I don't treat "online" as another world - it may be complex, but it's integral part of daily communication and right now there may be people worth communicating, learning from and helping to online, and they're not less valuable because they're in different country or in different city, just there's no way to connect with them in real life in the same place. "Media" that spreads info is one thing, people we communicate are same people, even if online.
@jwtraphagan @WolfAngel I was working for several years with a guy that was regularly visiting Japan for long periods and was married to Japanese woman, from him a learned that things like "the flower withered" will not have that literate meaning that Westerners may derive from it. They use different analogies.
