@a_lizard What started with Constantius Chlorus, underwent beautiful stages of development, among them the famous “byzantine symphony” where the state & Church were working together for the good of their people; ended up in lots of internal political tensions and finally brought the collapse. It was an interesting Empire, that’s for sure! 🙂

@a_lizard they were already owned from the inside by politics, the Empire was weaken by political tensions, then came the crusades & destabilized them even more that the end result was collapse. Also, during the siege in Constantinople where Constantine XI (Palaiologos) died on the city walls trying to defend it (29 May 1453) it’s said that they even opened the door to let the enemies conquer the city.
