Good. She is an outstanding example of what it means to be liberal as well as what it means to be a journalist.

Maybe leadership by example can right the course of American journalism.

Which is exactly why I asked for proof.

In the fullest context of what he was saying, he was not advocating that anyone be stone to death.

Hyper-partisan sources love to pick limited quotes and stretch them well beyond a reasonable interpretation of events.

Also, Charlie mis-quoted Lev. 18, but that's a separate issue. Lev. 18 does not call for stoning in any of the versions that I cycled through in the last few days - specifically responding to this false claim.

Viral Claims About Charlie Kirk's Words - FactCheck.org

Since the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk on Sept. 10, social media users have shared posts showing, quoting or paraphrasing remarks the posts attribute to the conservative activist. Many readers have asked us to provide the facts on whether Kirk, the founder of the youth political group Turning Point USA, made several of these comments.

Speech is not violence.
Violence is not speaking.

Speech is speech.
Violence is violence.

The correct response to disagreeable speech is more speech.

“I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. I aim with my eye.

I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. I shoot with my mind.

I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father. I kill with my heart.”

It is that heart that is in serious need of questioning. And the hearts of those cheering on the murder of #charliekirk

Mini review - Tower of Silence by Larry Correia 5⭐

One of the best series to come along in a long time. Every page keeps you engaged an interested in what comes next.

Books that would have made this year's best novel shortlist much better.

The Ferryman by Justin Cronin
Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Brandon Sanderson
House of Gold by C.T. Rwizi
Stand Alone by John Van Stry

My Hugo best novel votes this year.

1 - Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh
2 - No Award
3 - Starter Villain by John Scalzi (not bad, just not a worthy finalist)
4 - Witch King by Martha Wells (lots of unexplained features)
5 - The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty (the book purposefully hid information from the reader)
6 - Saint of Bright Doors by Vajra Chandrasekera (plain DNF - boring)
7 - End of ballot

Translation State by Ann Leckie (Hard DNF)

Mini review - Mirrored Heavens by Rebecca Roanhorse (unstarred as I like the author's other work)

I dislike extensive passages where we are experiencing a character's internal monologue. To make matters worse, the character in question was not a main character and not one that I wanted to spend any time with.

Hard DNF.

Very disappointing given my immensely pleasurable experiences with Ms. Roanhorse's other works (including the first two books in this series.)

Mini review - Murder at Spindle Manor 4.5⭐

This book won SPFBO 2023. As with almost all the other SPFBO winners, this book was a treat.

This book is a mixture of murder mystery, Lovecraftian horror, steam punk, and a bit of Monty Python-esque humour. A very 19th century British feel to the book.

Oddly, that description would ordinarily turn me away, but I really enjoyed this one.
