Today is my 1 month anniversary of signing up for Mastodon. A few observations—after spending 13+ years on Twitter:

•The Mastodon community is kinder & more focused on lifting one another up than tearing down.

•Mastodon is learning from Twitter's mistakes by including accessibility options, incorporating an edit button, & not centralizing everything

•Engagement is not dependent on clickbait or outrage, but genuine positive content.

None of the above are absolutes, but overall, glad I'm here.

Now some of you, especially the newbies, might be thinking, "Huh?! I thought Mastodon *was* the Fediverse?"

No, Mastodon is a Fediverse app, thus part of the Fediverse -- it is not the entirety of the Fediverse.

Mastodon cannot be all things to all people who use the Fediverse.

What even is the Fediverse? I've written this handy thread to catch you up to speed: https://mastodon.social/@atomicpoet/109354761662214688

Why is Mastodon not effective for all potential social media uses?

For the same reason Twitter can't be Instagram. Or why Facebook can't be TikTok. Or why YouTube can't be Reddit.

Mastodon is excellent for microblogging, but the moment we try to shoehorn other purposes into Mastodon, Mastodon becomes less effective at microblogging.

If you want a real world scenario for why this is, just look at Instagram when Meta moves it away from its core function.

How Does Purple Teaming Work?

Purple teaming does not replace red or blue teaming. Both continue as distinct entities on the organizational chart. Rather, purple teaming enables these distinct groups to form communicative, supportive, and collaborative relationships across the functional boundary. This is true regardless of whether organizations use external partners for their red team capabilities (as is most often the case) or whether the red team is an internal capability (as can be the case in large, well-resourced companies).

The goal of purple teaming is to bring the blue and red team functions together. A relatively new concept, purple teaming aims to foster collaboration by aligning processes, cycles, and information flows between teams to overcome the competitive or even adversarial dynamic of the traditional siloed security approach.
