@uanews How about “Rise and leave”? Would definitely prefer that.
@giulio_mattioli Thanks for the link to that report, very interesting to read. The particular graph here might also be related with the success of electric vehicles as most of the EVs are heavier and more powerful than their fossil-fueled counterparts. In his section I saw a single bit about the Swedish uptick of the average weight, while it was also mentioned that in Sweden PHEVs are surging in popularity. The huge jump in China might be — partially — explained by that too.
@epro @ianbetteridge Very good point, it fills me with anger every time some manager utters these empty phrases, what’s the worst that could happen to them? They will be dismissed and receive generous bonus payments, their golden parachute — and probably be on their way to butcher the next company.
@WarInTheFuture Thank you for the insight, Scholz’ reluctance to approve Leopard transfers to Ukraine is a massive blunder that will hurt Germany’s reputation for a long time. I get it, Germany (and I, to be honest) wasn’t prepared for a large, conventional war in Europe — but it’s been 11 months and the new reality should be acknowledged, russia is an aggressor attacking a sovereign country, and supplying weapons is the least you can do to ensure the safety of Ukraine and Europe.
@ChrisO_wiki Is this all you have to know about the russian psyche? “That's all. I'm not used to complaining, if I have to go, let's go. If it's necessary.” — Even in the face of death and misery, they will be silent. I would really like to get some insights on how this thinking — successfully! — keeps ordinary people from revolting against their suffering.
@ChrisO_wiki I am at loss for words at the level of inhumanity we are seeing from the russian occupiers, even among their own they don’t value life. Disgusting, revolting.
@WarInTheFuture Very interesting essay, thanks for sharing it!
@Dahlialith the time to walk away was yesterday. I left in November when it was already clear there is no perspective, I do admit that I miss some aspects of it, after 15 years I had compiled an interesting selection of people I followed. Some are already here, some are still missing, many use mastodon only as an additional channel but I do hope it will get some more attention and content that’s not only a re-post from twitter.
