The particular graph here might also be related with the success of electric vehicles as most of the EVs are heavier and more powerful than their fossil-fueled counterparts. In his section I saw a single bit about the Swedish uptick of the average weight, while it was also mentioned that in Sweden PHEVs are surging in popularity. The huge jump in China might be — partially — explained by that too.
