@StefanEJones I ask this as someone with both editions of GURPS Uplift.
@StefanEJones So it’s worth getting if I’ve got the original?
@NewtonMark @railmaps Nope. I don’t think there’s any track in Australia cleared past 160km/h for normal running.
A pedantic gunzel (is there any other kind?) will note that the XPTs are geared for lower speeds than the HSTs.
@hypnogoria The two stars of Beta Lyrae if I remember correctly. Always reminds me of Larry Niven’s short story The Soft Weapon. Which may well have been inspired by this painting.
@nyrath my #scifidna It probably says something about young me that two of these are about science fiction rather than the thing itself.
@cstross There is a tiny genre of tabletop wargames for Plan Red (including Plan Crimson for Canada and even one for Scarlet vs Australia).
@CGHildebrandt There’s a “New America” in Twilight 2000 that fits, though I don’t know the fluff we’ll enough to say if they have much of a pre-war presence or not
@tkinias @nyrath Which still leaves you vulnerable to swarming by smaller ships if you can’t kill them fast enough. Which is what happened.
Graf Spee dealt out a lot of damage but was lucky to have been caught by the smallest heavy cruiser ever and a couple of moderate-sized light cruisers.
@nyrath Graf Spee was slow for a cruiser, a mere 28 knots. Partly a consequence of the diesel engines that gave such long range.
And the French built the Dunkerque class to chase down and kill them.
Then the Germans built the Scharnhorsts to deal with the Dunkerques and by this time things have escalated to full size fast battleships.
@johnquiggin They’re hanging out for a new Franco.
