Here for tech, music, chocolate, learning things, and Kraken hockey. Wrangling bits and words, explaining that time and space matter. Too much distributed systems, but can I have more please?

Bribes. They’re known as bribes.

@luckytran This list of trans people terms, along with asylum seeking immigrants, BIPoC, and women in general, are the people that the right is frightened be normalized as full human beings and citizens in America. It is very inconvenient to them that these people exist. They are trying to erase people like my family members, rob science of discussing reality, so that these folks may not be talked about, and are not to be granted full human rights.

This won't erase us, and it won't remove us from the public forum. It won't make anyone cis/white/male richer except for the unsatisfiable oligarchs and their politician stooges. It will terrorize, dehumanize, disenfranchise and make miserable a small fraction of society... people who are just like you and me but who in order to feel free and fully themselves need to express their gender differently than what they were born with. It's a crime to refuse them full understanding and representation in our world.

I may be coming across as some academic computer science nerd. It's actually the opposite. I'm a humanities nerd who cares about the agency of users so much I've twisted myself into a shape where I can do a computer science thing.

But architecture matters. It affects the worlds we can have.

We should build decentralized systems because we care about empowering people. We can't forget about power distribution.

Let's be clear about what our systems can and can't do.

And no matter where you are, if you're trying to build a healthier internet for everyone, keep it up.

Thanks. 💜

Notes for forbidden Vim/Emacs Gijinka Slashfic

VIM: Straightlaced, alarmingly thin, straight black hair. So serious most people think she has no emotion at all. Dresses in plain black & gray hoodies, but occasionally shows a splash of color. Personality shifts based on context. Writes nothing but Python and inscrutable DSLs she designed herself.

EMACS: Big, brash, curvy. Supremely confident, believes she can— and tries to— do anything and everything. REALLY wants you to try LISP. Control freak

Robinhood describing its new feature that lets you gamble on the outcome of the election as “unlocking a new asset class that democratizes access to events as they unfold” is a reminder that Draft Kings, Robinhood and Coinbase are all in the same business but only one of them is honest about it.

Robinhood admits it’s just a gambling app

Now you can gamble on the next president of the U.S. on the app that previously let you gamble on crypto. This is definitely about financial inclusion, Robinhood says.
