👉🏼 Working on your Common App personal statement?

Ask yourself: Who are you?

When are you 🫣?
When are you 💪🏼?

When are you 📣?
When are you 🤫?

When are you 🤪?

💡 “Education Statistics” may sound like wonky policy stuff, but this one piece of the Department of Education IES alone directly impacts high school students across the country.
#CollegeAdmissions /End
🏫 Example: High schools/School districts pay a fee for platforms like Naviance, SCOIR, Schoology, MaiaLearning, etc., that rely on NCES data as well as data from Peterson’s. Peterson’s is a private company which may continue to collect data for their own products, but they choose whether to make it available for free and what requires a subscription. Who gets access will become more limited. 4/
📊 This data includes data on admit rates, average GPA, average test scores, programs of study offered, student demographics, retention rates, graduation rates, cost of attendance, financial aid, etc. NCES is why all colleges “that participate in or are eligible to participate in any federal student financial assistance program authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965” (pretty much all of them) are required to disclose their data which is then made public through College Navigator, College Scorecard, and other college search platforms. 3/
💭 Abolishing the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) means the loss of future centralized data for education, including college admissions data collected by IES’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). 2/

🧵 Let’s talk Department of Education

👩🏻‍🎓 If you’re a #HighSchoolStudent, #ParentsOfHighSchoolStudents, or professional supporting high school students, you might think whether something like the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences exists or not doesn’t really impact you. 1/
