Twitter-Alternative: Mozilla will frei zugängliche Mastodon-Instanz einrichten
Ab Anfang 2023 will Mozilla an einer "gesunden Social-Media-Alternative" mitarbeiten und eine Instanz im Fediverse einrichten. Mastodon sei dafür ideal.

By now it should be obvious why Mastodon is better (safer, more resilient, divers, configurable, etc.) than Twitter.
But still, it's not 2005 anymore where nearly everybody online is able and willing to invest at least some energy into understanding the tools they use. The Internet went public and with it came all the people who mistake Facebook for the Internet at large.
Any hurdle to join an alternative service (like asking to type in a server, deciding on clients with different names *gasp*, or even knowing that there are different clients) will lead to these people simply not joining and it does not matter how otherwise sensible that ask is. This is why these monolithic, black-box services (and devices) are so popular: there is zero friction.
How can this be mitigated? I feel like there is this amazing opportunity to actually improve social media somewhat but just "being right" is not enough to overcome this inertia.
