My twitter followers are jumping ship. My engagement is dropping rapidly. They changed the algorithm to force feed me right wing accounts. And white supremacy, Islamophobia, & antisemitism on Twitter are being defended as valid points of view.
By contrast this Mastodon community is igniting robust dialogue, respectful disagreement, and offers little comfort to racists and bigots.
This is what Twitter couldâve been, and Iâm really hopeful this is what Mastodon continues to be. Thank you all.â¤ď¸âđ˝
@ariadne How are you managing with contradicting sources of climate information?
Contradicting sources need to really speak to eachother or we are going to get a lot of people not knowing what to believe, only seeing the contradictions, making very poor decisions, including fossil fuel execs who will use the lack of clarity ..... and its shockingly stressful for everyone. #Climate #ClimateCrisis from the Guardian: "The world can still limit global heating to 1.5C, and to claim that the target is now out of reach is to play into the hands of fossil fuel proponents, the worldâs leading energy economist has warned. Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency, the global authority on energy, slammed scientists and activists who have claimed that the recent #Cop27 UN climate summit killed off hopes for the crucial 1.5C limit. âIt is factually incorrect, and politically it is very wrong,â said Birol. âThe fact is that the chances of 1.5C are narrowing, but it is still achievable.â Birol said that the claims that the 1.5C limit was dead were coming from an âunusual coalitionâ of scientists, activists and fossil fuel industry âincumbentsâ. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/nov/30/giving-up-on-15c-climate-target-would-be-gift-to-carbon-boosters-says-iea-head
