Memories from March 16, 2020, when we found a bag of Rooster potatoes - ā€œIreland’s favoriteā€ [sic], just in time for St. Patrick’s Day #throwbackthursday

I've been struggling with this myself, so I thought I'd repeat it for other people that might be dealing with the same thing:

Not every hobby needs to be a project. Not everything needs to be a whole *thing* with a goal and an endpoint. It's okay to not finish something. It's okay to pick up something for a bit, explore it, start making something, and then drop it without making any "progress".

Productivity is capitalist bullshit that doesn't need to infect your free time too. Have some fun

Trees improve our air & water. They reduce flooding & erosion, help address #climate change, conserve energy & create habitats for plants & animals. We’re fortunate to walk among them. #SharedPlanet

RSS is really an under-rated [largely unknown?] way to keep up with YouTube channels.

YouTube ~used to~ include the RSS links right on channel pages but these days they try and hide 'em (they're still there)

Feedly is my RSS reader of choice and it'll automatically add a channel just from the URL but if you need the actual RSS, they can be found with a little digging.

right-click, 'View Page source', ctrl+F to find 'rssurl' in the page source - it'll be formatted to look something like wwwĀ·youtubeĀ·com/feeds/videosĀ·xml?channel_id=bunchanumbers

Like any RSS feed, when your fav creators update, you'll see it come up close to real time. & you might prefer that over the YouTube home page or notification options.

now ChatGPT seems really impressive and all but you have to remember that you can be tricked into thinking a rock has feelings by drawing a cute face on it
Mom owns an antique store: i work in tech. When i was growing up i made fun of my mom's business voicemail, which repeated her open hours twice and specified what goes in a message. These days i put deadlines in the subject of an email, then in the email twice — once in the overview, again in the action item. I also tell recipients exactly what i want to know in their subject and body of reply. Mama i get it now

Remember when I ran that pub quiz last month and complained about not having the right tools? Well, I built my own, and now they're ready for you:

One of my tasks as an admin is to decide which hashtags get to trend on my instance. So far there hasn't been anything problematic but today I saw #ThickTrunkTuesday and being a trash baby from BirdSite I was thinking oh boy here we go. But I clicked on it and it was just a bunch of lovely pictures of trees with dummy thicc trunks. I love all you beautiful nerds. Never change.
Quick question to people who teach first year university (any subject, any country). Did you make any changes to your course because your incoming students had their education disrupted by #COVID19 ? #HigherEducation

I just spent the last ~hour trying to figure out why a #PowerBI file was not working…

… only to finally figure out Microsoft themselves provided an incomplete database — it is missing two data views needed by said Power BI file.

It is the WideWorldImporters database, in case you are wondering … and those views have been missing for ~6 years!
