One of the biggest features of #DigitalCompactCassette that never made it to the public, was ITTS: Interactive Text Transmission Service. Every prerecorded DCC tape has it, but there were no DCC recorders that could show the information on a TV screen, as intended.
In this video, we interview Thomas Falkner about his efforts to reverse-engineer the ITTS data that comes out of the digital outputs of every recorder, and the development of his Next Generation ITTS box. His device works with all stationary DCC decks, unlike the Philips prototype ITTS decoder.
Thomas's invention made it into a Techmoan video a short time ago, which was featured in a Hackaday article as well. His decoder has helped us find many tapes that have lyrics and other interesting information on them, including graphics that the Philips ITTS decoder didn't even show correctly. We are very grateful for his contributions and we hope he will continue sharing his work. Thanks Thomas!
