I saw a guy in Cupertino today, wearing a shirt that said, "the data made me do it" and it just really showcases the entire absence of conceptual framework that is missing from everything in silicon valley.

Most programmers have no really concept of data other than as a commodity to abstract and exploit. The reliance on machine learning partially reveals that this system of "data" includes really no idea what to make of it, what it means, what it reveals or how to think about it.

STEM education without liberal arts is cruel to students and a disaster more generally for most people trapped in the dystopias that emerge from this ignorance.
