Marty Sheargold, as the husband of a wife who suffers from endometriosis. I just wanted to reach out and whole heartedly say: go fuck yourself.

Currently staying in Bright VIC.
It's quiet.
Too quiet.
I can't wrap my head around it.
Normally the first weekend of school holidays the town is jam packed, families everywhere, shops full to the brim, you name it.
What's going on?
I assume it's the cost of living and people making an effort to save but looking at any news reporting over the past 3 months seems to imply strong demand for holidays. I remember one article even speaking of "revenge holidays" where people are taking holidays in spite of the cost of living.
Anyone out there in the Fediverse have any insights or just noticing the same?

To celebrate our partnership with Apostrophy, we’re giving away ten (yes, 10!) Punkt MC02 privacy smartphones: https://threema.ch/bp/apostrophy
Partnership with Apostrophy: Win a Privacy Phone

Like Threema, Apostrophy is a Swiss company that puts privacy first, doesn’t collect user data, and opposes to Big Tech’s ad-driven business model. Now, the two companies team up to facilitate secure and privacy-compliant mobile communication.

It's finally happening!!
Even though the $ are in Aussie pesos it's still an expensive laptop.
This is a 16 with almost all the options ticked. All in now.

Please consider having some more business centric pre-built configurations linked from your "Framework for business" page. The business I work for is currently a HP shop. I have floated the suggestion to the Head of Technology Operations that we trial Frameworks as a way to align our purchases to our organisations environmental and ethical goals. The first stumbling block however was the pre-built configs (upgrades later are great, but high touch initial machines, i.e. DIY options are a bit of a no-no it seems).
1) Windows Home edition doesn't cut it. All the pre built configs linked from the "for Business" page need to come with Pro.
2) 8GB RAM ??? Locking more RAM behind higher spec CPUs if buying pre built just doesn't make sense. Our users aren't power users but we learned that 16GB has to be minimum. By the time Outlook, Teams & Chrome is open 8GB or RAM is already exhausted and we're beginning to use swap. A pairing that includes the lowest CPU options (i5 or 7640) with 16GB RAM makes more sense as a business option.

I want to see you succeed and I want to convince our Head of Tech to give you a shot so I hope this helps.

Hi all, a shout-out for assistance. I'm considering hosting a Lemmy instance (assuming I can pass the wife test on costs) and I'm looking for some guidance on specs.

Can anyone who's currently hosting an instance (or who knows the inner workings of one) please reply with:
- specs on the hardware / VPS that's hosting your instance
- how many users / posts that's supporting
- what the system load looks like with the above
- if locally hosting, the type of bandwidth requirements you're seeing

Thank you!!
