NEW RESEARCH: Heat pumps are more than twice as efficient as fossil fuel heating systems in cold temperatures, our new research shows.

Even at temperatures approaching -30C, heat pumps outperform oil and gas heating systems.

Doubts about whether heat pumps work well in subzero conditions shown to be unfounded, say researchers

I might make some enemies saying this, but crocs ‘n’ socks are a great combo and I will take no further questions. #crocs #socks
More shocking weather in the highlands.
Possibly rare sight of Ben Nevis with no cloud on.
Loch Long: a long loch
Leaving Glasgow behind to host the world cycling championships while we head off to Fort William.
One train cancelled so far, which meant a stop in Skipton and the Woolly Sheep instead of the Station Inn at Ribblehead as planned.
The start of a long awaited holiday. I finished the work I needed to do at 10:30 last night and packed first thing this morning. A week of trains awaits (Settle - Carlisle and West Highland Line to Mallaig).

First time using a @myenergiuk Zappi.

Struggled at first but maybe because my car is old and dumb. Eventually got it drawing from roof.

What a fantastic feeing. The roof will (largely) power me to the beach and back!

I really dislike locks where you can't easily observe the state of them. So many public restrooms where I can't tell if I actually locked the door, where trying to test the lock from inside will release it, where I have to knock and put my ear to the door and still am pretty sure I can't tell if anyone is in there with all the bar noise

Locks that clearly show where the bolt is, that won't budge from the inside when locked, that show the state of the lock externally (occupied/vacant) exists. Why are they not common and standard?

It's one of those things that seems so clearly broken to me but clearly isn't a universal enough view to change things.
