okay but what if we had a locally hosted torment nexus?
"Organize code by what it does, not what it is" has always been my preference. Love seeing someone say it so well ❤️ https://mact.me/8i
The Vertical Codebase

Let's take a look at why the common, horizontal code structure is not ideal, where it breaks down, and what we can do about it.

Git won't track empty directories (because at heart it only tracks files). Common advice is to add a '.gitkeep' file so the directory isn't empty and git will make the directory.

EVEN BETTER ADVICE: put a README in the directory explaining what the empty directory is for and what will eventually be there.

inspired by CLAUDE.md, I’ve started putting markdown files named after coworkers into work code repos so I can remind them to stop doing shit to the codebase that annoys me

for some reason they’re all mad at me now, which means ill be adding commands to JEREMY.md for an attitude adjustment

I recently saw some wag label all scroll-focused time-eating phone use as "eye cigarettes” and it's stuck that way in my head now.

@danmactough Oh yeah, and this inverter to actually produce AC power from the batteries.

"people would think about this stuff more rationally if it were a TV show like Pluribus or Severance. Why did they really do what they did? ... It's funny people have a clarity about fictional stuff that they don't have for real-world things like war, health insurance, the cost of eggs and gestapo tactics" http://scripting.com/2026/01/09.html#a163009

Dave Winer, OG blogger, podcaster, developed first apps in many categories. Old enough to know better. It's even worse than it appears.

for me, it started to hit home with Bowie... it's been really fucking sad to see all the artists of the generation that formed me die one by one
apparently the last time I looked at my ios safari bookmarks there was still a world trade center

Dear #history folks: I'm a professional mapmaker (https://somethingaboutmaps.com) and I make a lot of maps for academic press books.

Would you be interested in attending an online talk where I discuss:
• what cartographers are
• why your work might benefit from maps
• how to find a mapmaker
• what it's like to work with one
• how much it might cost
?

If there's enough interest, I might put something together this winter, so please boost this! If it happens, I'll announce it here and on my blog.
