@dedalusroot I like point buy in theory, but I agree that the standard point buy in 5e is kind of punishing.
If your goal is a certain outcome with strengths and weaknesses, you could just use an array like: 18 15 14 10 10 8
Or if you really like rolling dice you could do a "group roll" option.
One option would be to make one array by going around the table with each person rolling for one part of the array
Or if you are good with stronger starting stats: everyone rolls an array and every player can pick any array (including multiple people using the same array).
