@thewitchpunk one of the lightening talks at libreplanet today introduced 'quiet', not sure if it has video/voice but it looks interesting: https://tryquiet.org/
Quiet - Private messaging. No servers.

@foolishowl yes, and the 'punching down' problem cases are better handled with improved moderation tools or improved tools for personally moderating harassment, etc. And streamlining those tools is an improvement regardless of other features...
@jocanib @taylorlorenz @scottaw @futurebird @Chris convenience, link follow-through, and attribution are all things that a properly implemented quote system would do that screenshots can't.

@bryanjclark I've experimented with it a bit myself (it's free as part of the student package). It's an incredibly impressive tool, gets a lot of things wrong imo but knocks grunt work out of the park.

I do worry about the fact that it's owned by an entity, and that it doesn't seem to have an open-sourced competitor... closest I can think of would be snippet-based tools, but that's nowhere near as powerful.

@ava Looks pretty neat, but... what's the target audience/problem for this? I already have my preferred development environment that doesn't need to be online.

PR's could be cool, though. Being able to test, debug, and repair a merge without needing to pull locally is useful.

@chartier Thanks for sharing-- the full report is overwhelmingly comprehensive, so that summary is a great starting point for understanding the findings.
