40. Kristina Sarhadi: "People don't hang their whole lives on a music scene, but we do."

Listen to this episode from enough. on Spotify. Kristina found salvation in the punk community as an escape from her home life. But when she finally met her idol, the singer of a political punk band that helped shape her values, instead of treating her like part of the community, he raped her. Kristina describes the details of that night, how it changed the trajectory of her life and how she interacts with music. Kristina Sarhadi is a therapist, reiki master, writer and recovering social worker from New York. She uses her experiences growing up in the NY punk scene to inform her trauma-informed therapy practice and seek creative ways to help her community build empowering relationships, stand up to injustices, and create sustainable change with joy and confidence. -- If you have been on the receiving end of harm from someone: be it artist, venue owner, audience member, or someone else and would like to share your story on a future episode, please reach out to us at: [email protected]. The Hidden Treasures of Pirate Democracy

In his final book, David Graeber looks at an experiment in radical democracy and piratical justice in Madagascar.

The Nation

Just finished Pirate Enlightenment by David Graeber. Such a playful and inquisitive book, everything you'd expect from him, and deeply, deeply interesting, particularly the parts about Malagasy women and their substantial commercial and sexual agency through their 'love magic' (ody fitia)

On Being Nonbinary: A Ramble - Dan - Medium

So, I’m nonbinary. I’ve known for some time now, and have been quietly out to a few people since last summer. This is a lot more personal than anything I’ve written on this little blog so far. I’ve…

Medium

When I think about myself, I'm just 'Dan,' a little syllable, but when I imagine myself in relation to others (or imagine other people referring to me in some hypothetical scenario, or just playing out a recent interaction in my mind), I have to *actively* make sure I think of myself with the right pronouns, because for my whole life, I've never been seen in the right way

So, normalise thinking of ourselves in the third person, and problem solved?
