Initially I had the same thought - this could easily be faked. But that wouldn‘t match Bernie Sander‘s character. I would trust this conversation happened as shown.

Europe (and other countries) had the chance to put a damper on Trump’s actions early on, when he started the “tariff wars”. If they had been steadfast, the impact on the American consumer would likely have forced Trump to end this quickly. But instead, they send Ursula von der Leyen to crawl deep into his behind and give him the impression that his tactics work, and thus encouraged him to continue.
