An incomplete list of what I’ve been and in some cases still am: punk rocker, depressed, amateur photographer, obsessed with quantum mechanics without having any basic notion of mathematics, researcher, expat, daughter, crazy cat lady, happily married, Romance philologist, bad bass player, wannabe writer, podcast enthusiast, language teacher, self-taught piano enthusiast, avid reader, non-driving person, hiker, somewhat erratic
In Poland, waxwing birds love to eat fermented fruit, get drunk and then lie insensible on the pavement.
People collect them and put them in a safe place until they sober up... #OurBeautifulWorld

I cannot keep this to myself. There is a website (radio.garden) where you can listen to radio stations all over the world for free. No log in. No email address. Nothing.

When the site loads, you are looking at the globe. Slide the little white circle over the green dots (each green dot is a radio station) until you find one you like.

I have been listening to this station in the Netherlands and it absolutely slaps.

EDIT: Replies tell me that this doesn't function in the UK without a VPN.

Winter solstice at Newgrange, Ireland. Dating from c. 3,200 BC, its central passage is illuminated by sunlight on the morning of the the shortest day of the year. Light pierces the world of darkness, prefiguring the return of life in spring. #WinterSolstice

I've been here just for a few days and as usual I've been mainly a lurker. But the feeling is that while pre-SpaceKaren #Twitter was a big metropolis where it was relatively easy to bump into people, with all the following pros and cons, #Mastodon is more like a collection of nice little towns where it might take some effort to meet the kind of people you're interested in, but the overall quality of life is better. I definitely like it.

It was clear from the jump Musk didn’t understand the site he’d bought, but I’m still a bit surprised he doesn’t grasp that journalists are the main reason Twitter was more relevant than any number of other similar platforms. Can easily imagine looking back on this as a tipping point.
If you're trying to find journalists on Mastodon, I've created a verified database of several hundred here: http://presscheck.org. Since the backlog has become enormous, the unverified waiting list is now public also: http://presscheck.org/pending

I took a look at Elon's new advertising plans for Twitter, and how they almost certainly violate (1) FTC consent decree (2) California privacy law and (3) EU privacy law.

It's a choice!

Twitter’s Big Ad Plan: Violate FTC Consent Decree, California Privacy Law & EU Privacy Laws To Force Users To Hand Over Info For Ad Targeting

The good folks over at Platformer broke the news that Twitter is experimenting with Elon’s desperate attempt to make money: forcing people to “opt-in” to share personal info so th…
