@countablenewt At least when I was there (left in 2016) Google had an entire geopolitics team responsible for this stuff - disputed borders, countries in which it was against the law to show anything other than the government approved borders and labels, and so on. Bit of a surprise to see the USA added to a list of geopolitically-sensitive countries like India, Pakistan and China..
