@skip_divided All good points. David Frum echoed what you said about "difficult countries", asking what they're supposed to do as Twitter collapses.
For now, I'm dividing my time over multiple services while I, and everyone else, transitions. On Twitter, I avoid the trends because they're now mostly full of far-Right trash. I stick to my TL and custom lists. Hopefully, the newer services will be able to accommodate global needs in a reasonable amount of time.
@dangillmor They are starting to leave. It will take them time to find footing elsewhere, ensure that their work is being seen, etc. But the exodus is definitely underway.
In a year's time, Musk is going to be left with a shell of what Twitter once was, overrun by Nazi's, illiberals, and lunatics, and he and his despotic financiers will have completely failed to silence us.
I was very concerned, initially, about how difficult it would be to re-build all of the communities from Twitter elsewhere.
No doubt it will take time, but I'm *much* more optimistic, now, that it will happen and within a reasonable amount of time. Some of the international ones will be more difficult; need to think about how to handle that.
@macroliter Musk has gone out of his way to make Twitter even more of a cesspool than it already was at times. The trends are all full of garbage, now. I mostly stick to my TL and custom topic lists.
Post and Mastodon are looking better and better. Within a year, Musk is going to be sitting on a $44 billion Truth Social.
