@sad_electronics wouldnsuggest looking at glow plugs for diesel engines. They can handle high temperatures, most water heater elements won't go that high. Glow plugs also are mass produced, highly available and can be attached to something. Only drawback is the hughe current at low voltage. Guess you'd prefer Mains compatibility?
@kurtseifried in case you're interested, you could look at your local used stuff market and get the cheapest you can find, make a net install with the newest version and check if it suits you.

@kurtseifried @joshbressers there is a new method for mesh alternatively of the workaround of kicking out devices with bad connection but yeah, that's not perfect on them. My apartment is small enough for a single CapAX, so I haven't done much in that direction when I'm honest.

Works well with AVM though.

@kurtseifried @joshbressers out of the box their config is alright but it takes a while to learn. For consumer stuff I like AVM Fritz! stuff, but since they got recently sold in unsure about their future. Recently even discontinued models got updates and they are the most popular brand in Germany.

@kurtseifried @joshbressers regarding WiFi, I'm a huge mikrotik fan. They have a great policy:

> The device has an operating system preinstalled and licensed. No separate purchase is necessary and the product is ready to use. The device includes free software updates for the life of the product or a minimum of 5 years starting from date of purchase.

So far they only stopped supporting some architecture that not longer exists, nee software also runs on old devices.

Today I learned that the banana plug is 100 years old. And I thought we use rj45 and BNC for a long time...

A Complete Guide to Banana Plugs

An expert guide on banana plugs, explaining what they are, their uses, the different types, how they work, how to use them and the best options for you.

@kurtseifried @joshbressers maybe it's already common knowledge, but I recently noticed chrome asks you if you really want to keep downloads from http (downloaded the m3u8 for a stream from my sat receiver)

Also one question: what would happen if you would serve HTTPS over port 80?

@kurtseifried true, that's also one of the things they somehow improve again and again.
@kurtseifried it's quite impressive how long this standard survived and I bet they never thought that you can force 10gbit/s through it. Just think about the change USB connectors had, mini and micro usb are basically dead now.

@kurtseifried is it maybe a manufacturing thing? The RJ45 connector is comparably old (1973) and the tab would allow less size compared to a screw connector and make it relatively cheap. But without the tab the friction won't be able to hold it.

Newer connectors like micro usb (2007) have small springs and other connectors have the right amount of friction.
