somewhat of a music nerd. occasional art and poetry when i have all sorts of feelings. vulnerable posts are followers-only, and usually written in my native language (romanian) as a way to create a natural barrier. tendency to write in lowercase.

you just can't expect less fortunate folks to perform at the same level as you do. it's also how our brains work, your brain doesn't have space for abstract stuff when your main concern is survival.

romanians are blamed for not reading books. can they afford one? no, a lot of them need to pay rent from a minimum wage salary, which is obscenely low for EU standards, around 500€ (2500-ish RON). do they have public libraries nearby they can go to? that's a completely foreign concept in rural Romania, you only find libraries in cities. i know that because i'm currently living in a rural area.

if you're one of those who call people names just because they don't read or know things, you probably should stop and look inwards. and look for context. systemic issues are often the context. stop blaming people for their lack of education, or supposedly "lack of intelligence." look upwards, and i'm pretty sure you'll find the answer

"stupid" people

i'm noticing that a lot of folks, both online and IRL, are putting the label "stupid" on people lately, just because they don't resonate with them on an intellectual level, without acknowledging their background and ignoring a lot of context that's behind things. i'm a bit tired of this, because a lot of people have a different view on intelligence, it's something that's shaped by our own individual experiences, and people often extrapolate their views onto everybody.

as a concrete example, public education in my home country is underfunded, and a lot of people are left behind in this regard. if you're an educated individual, you're already in a privileged position, and it's unfair to call people stupid just because they didn't have the same chance as you had. in poorer parts of the country, a lot of them don't even go to middle school (școala generală).
