Thousands gather in Newcastle for the People’s Blockade

For the third year running, people from around the country converged on Newcastle Harbour last weekend to protest the shipment of coal from the world’s busiest coal port.  Around eight thousand people from a large number of grassroots groups took part in the People’s Blockade “protestival” on the harbour foreshore which began on Thursday and continued through until Tuesday. Much of the activity took place on the Saturday and Sunday with hundreds boarding kayaks and paddling out into the harbour.

If nuclear lost the election for the LNP, home solar and batteries won it for Labor. It’s time to double down

Peter Dutton declared the 2025 federal election a “referendum on energy.” But in his own electorate, solar households had already cast their vote.

The blackouts in Spain and Portugal have set the "blame renewables" tongues wagging. Ketan Joshi has put out a great piece this morning pushing back against the disinformation while the power gets restored and the actual cause is investigated: https://reneweconomy.com.au/spains-blackout-has-already-triggered-a-firestorm-of-disinformation/
Spain’s blackout has already triggered a firestorm of disinformation

A major, unprecedented blackout has hit Spain and Portugal – and within hours, anti-renewable disinformation has spread far and wide, including to Australia

Monday's Daily Telegraph and other Murdoch tabloids splashed a paid advertorial for the gas industry across its front page. Only on the inside pages did they admit who paid for the piece, which is factually wrong in many places anyway. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/dec/02/how-can-news-corp-call-its-gas-splash-exclusive-and-special-report-when-its-paid-for-by-industry
How can News Corp call its gas splash an ‘exclusive’ and a ‘special report’ when it’s paid for by industry?

Readers led to believe a short-on-facts advertorial exhorting government to let companies extract more gas is straight news coverage

Join us at the Concord Farmers Market, Cintra Park, Concord, this morning (Dec 1) between 9 and 12 where we will show you why induction cooking is better for the planet than gas, and the food tastes just as good! And what's more, we'll be powering it from an electric vehicle!
