What about this?
The only moves are rock or paper.
One player has to match. The other player has to mismatch.
If both play rock, or both play paper, player 1 wins. If one plays rock and the other paper, player 2 wins.
I'm sorry, but scissors must go.

I actually thought about it yesterday, while riding a bus across the brandenburgian jungle.
If you were to really remove one element from RPS, is it possible to redesign it to make a still interesting game?
And I thought, what about a "prisoner's dilemma" remix of rock-paper-nothing? You need to introduce scores to make it work, but now you have 2 options instead of 3, which was the requirement.
