I used to contribute a lot to Drupal core. I still work as a Drupal consultant. If you need help debugging tricky Drupal backend problems, reach out.

I love this kind of music: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvL3SharHGKut2spUcOB0zvHW0zYLadhd

And while I didn't add the letters ADHD to the end of the music playlits, I do have ADHD. Unmanaged RSD caused a lot of problems in my life: working on it.

@ariadne I have been teetering on the edge for years -- another major breaking point was the open source communities as a whole abandoning the vulnerable at conferences by refusing to keep masking.

Overall, it's been difficult but since I completely stopped two months ago I am mostly fine. Work is fascinating, the Path Of Exile videogames keep the idle hours occupied. It's not much but it is what it is.

@ariadne I have been contributing to the Drupal open source project for 22 years and one of the main reasons I stopped is because of where the community stands regarding LLMs (in short, they love it). It's very difficult because I still love writing code but the community aspects now makes contributing untenable to me.

this LLM issue is so exhausting and depressing

on one side, i feel like a cog in a machine, which is just doing fantastic things for my mental health

on the other side, it is the most binary issue i have seen in a long time, i have long-time friends mutually "fuck off and die"-ing at each other, which is also just doing fantastic things for my mental health

Please @davidgerard take apart the Stanford law study. It should've been "For common first-year contracts-law questions, law professors preferred AI-generated answers to professor-generated answers" but also there's a smell of conflict of interest here with Google.
@helge @davidgerard it still makes me stupefied and sad people use these tools as if they were talking to a human. It's just matrix multiplication. Sure, a real lot of them but please. "pal"? It's no more your pal than Excel or Chrome.

Timnit Gebru was fired from Google in December 2020 for refusing to retract a research paper, and every single warning that paper made about large language models has now happened at a scale the industry spent 4 years trying to make people forget about.

So, uh, I haven't... I haven't tried TikTok yet. I know, it's weird, I'm a grown-ass adult, and yet here we are.

I just spent like 30 minutes browsing TikTok and honestly it explains _so much_ about why... well, everything is just LIKE this, now.

it's... just wall-to-wall political misinformation, loud noises, boobs, kittens, AI slop, teenagers echoing white supremacist talking points, stunts, ads, get-rich-quick-schemes, it's like pure liquid USA

@pfish.zone so much of the maintainer community right now is handwringing about "but if we ban LLM use, how will we tell?" and I am exasperated because the answer is not some sophisticated word-probability detection machine, it is "they will be blindingly obvious about it, and if they manage to not be obvious for a second, they will brag about it, they can't stop themselves"
@azzale the only reason local LLMs even exist is to provide the exact fig leaf you just said. As a product it's completely unusable. You people are very predictable.
@trkzn @zzt apparently one of their products is now health insurance claim denial. Seriously. It's not even decision or anything, it's automated denial, see here https://cyc.com/leveling-charge-capture-and-denials/ Dougles Lenart died in 2023 so I guess the vultures took over whatever was left.
