Socially awkward penguin, rollin' hard in the land of fediverse chicks and reply guys.
@notthatdelta I would love to have another clove cigarette, the ones I had in my youth were rolled like a spliff. Would love to try one of those guided mushroom experiences, we just did it the hard way, hit up the pasture. I live in southwest Ohio, in a little green spot between three major cities. The last few years have been really interesting. There was a pair of eagles in the neighbors field a few months ago, and a black bear wandered through the field behind the house a week ago
@notthatdelta my little corner, and my favorite toys. The whole building is filled with these things, and everyone's supplies for them. My generator is there too.
@notthatdelta that's a gorgeous car! I have access to a lot of vehicles if there is no fuel available, and a facility with a waste oil heater, in a large, fairly well insulated metal building that is also an excellent faraday cage. You'll not play a radio inside. If it really goes sideways, I'll probably tuck in with the Mennonite community down the road. I have a small forge at the shop and buy coal from them to fire it. They would love to have a blacksmith. I'll not starve
@notthatdelta I'm old tired and divorced. It's almost always just me here, so I don't keep animals because I don't have enough free time, and don't want to neglect them. I pretty much try to do way too much, but life is kinda short, and I don't want to miss much.
@notthatdelta I salvaged an old house that has an eight foot wide single hung window. They were the counterweights.
@Shunra oh boy! Love a new obsession
@Victorsigmoid I have been kicking this idea around at our library. Someone here posted an old card catalog that had been converted for this purpose, and it was perfect.
@notthatdelta I did commercial hvac for most of my career. Very familiar with waste oil heat. Every little grease monkey around here has one. The cooking oil is a hot commodity, they burn it in their trucks, and the older farm equipment. I am installing mini splits that can be compatible with solar by the end of the year. Hopefully they haven't tanked the economy by then,and I can get some panels on the roof. I'm self employed now, so I do rely on the building industry to stay healthy.
@notthatdelta I'm gardening in the flower beds around the house ( if I can't eat it, it's been ripped out, except for one corner.) Most of the wildlife is moles/voles or rats. Lots of fun with the thermal scope, but irritates the neighbors. (22) Everyone around me farms, and I'm leaning in on them a bit too, learn what I can fast.
@notthatdelta wind is a huge problem here, it almost never stops. Mid to late summer it's mostly above me because of the corn. I have always wanted a good pellet gun, been drooling over a talon for years. I race and repair go karts, and make parts for anything fast, so casting lead is no problem. I have two one hundred pound ingots saved for a rainy day.

I had a very warm walk on the rail trail west of Rittman this morning and on way home stopped at the cemetery on the ridge where Bob and I would view sunsets when he was still mobile.
@bBuck Time always passes quickly, life is only a few short decades, and the time lost is not coming back. Sunsets from years ago are always the most beautiful.
@AuroraTaylor
Yes, agree with you there. The first sunset I remember I was 5 years old. I’ll never forget. We lived in rural Georgia then. My family watched it along with the neighbors right in our back yard. We had a hill sloping down out back so it was a good place to take in the view. It was the same year JFK was assassinated. I have a similar vivid memory of watching the JFK news coverage on our small black and white TV in the living room. It was the same year my little sister was born.
