we welcomed Dr Suvi Rautio from Helsinki who gave a talk on her ethnography of state-led heritage-making project in a designated "traditional village". fantastic exchanges with our students from anthropology, politics, history & geography, kicking off the new academic year of the China centre 🗓️

Leiden ranking is a uni ranking purely based on citations
the difference between fields is striking
all fields: pretty much dominated by 🇨🇳 unis
physical sciences & engineering; maths & cs: absolutely dominated by 🇨🇳 unis, plus some other Asian countries
social sci & hum: the only field where euro-american dominance remains (there are two other fields which are more diverse), or more precisely by anglophone & dutch-speaking unis. one reason is the ranking only considers publications in English

2-year career development fellowship in IPE. applicants with expertise in East Asia and/or EU-China relations particularly welcome!
