Remember, if a police officer stops you:

1. "Am I being detained?"
-- If no: Walk away.
-- If yes:
2. "I request a lawyer be present before I answer any questions. I am exercising my right to remain silent."

Then do so. If taken to jail, the only words out of your mouth should be "I refuse to answer any questions without my lawyer present." and/or "Let me contact my lawyer now."

If you don't have a lawyer's number memorized, write it in sharpie on your arm before attending a protest.

Poo.

Before I was let go from my job, the head of Europe operations was basically recruiting me to become the first <my job title> in Europe.

I just saw that they actually posted that job opening, so I hit him up on LinkedIn. "I'm afraid <former boss> is the hiring manager for this role. Unfortunately running <my former team> EMEA won't be my responsibility as originally planned by <CEO>. So not sure if this would really have a chance for success. I would have reached out to you to hire you if it had been under me." (He, along with pretty much everyone else that reached out to me, were shocked I was let go. As was I.)

Which is odd, because they made a point of having EMEA be a separate GmbH, to be able to be "completely EU based" for EU government contract purposes. They were making a point of having people work for EMEA head, not US. So of *COURSE* my job is the one that they don't do this with.

"...has helped develop a new artificial intelligence chip that could improve energy efficiency six times over the current industry standard."

Or… Much more likely, AI companies will just sextuple their computing power at the same energy usage. Or, even far more likely than that, trigintuple (30x) their computing power at five times the energy usage.

New computer chips show promise for reducing energy footprint of artificial intelligence | Newsroom

CORVALLIS, Ore. – An Oregon State University College of Engineering researcher has helped develop a new artificial intelligence chip that could improve energy efficiency six times over the current industry standard. As the use of artificial intelligence soars, so does the amount of energy it requires. Projections show artificial intelligence accounting for half a percent of global energy consumption by 2027 – using as much energy annually as the entire country of the Netherlands.

if anyone does needlepoint Etsy customs, my wife (learning programming) wants one that says "Fuck . , ( ) [ ]" or similar.

(She spent four hours last night debugging a program only to find she had a period where she should have had a comma. Today she fought with square brackets vs parenthesis for an hour.)

This is really important advice, especially for anyone dealing with mental health struggles or a chronic illness.
something, something, foot fetish joke….
Ah, yes. "Lifetime" = "5 years."
