Any #designers out there ever notice that when you want to balance the content layout of a modal, you usually end up adding a bit more padding on the left & right than the top & bottom?
I don't know why, but I always find that fascinating.

On algorithms:
We seem to all talk as if we’re a slave to the algorithms that platforms use to serve us content. But I never, ever hear anyone have discussions about actively crafting algorithms. It’s totally doable.
We all talk about diet, exercise, and mental health, but I’d like to see more conversation around the practice of making active algorithmic choices for the purpose of shaping our minds.
Impose yourself on yourself, for yourself.
Couple thoughts on humans and getting "used to" AI.
Anyone who's ever listened to a record on a quality turntable through a nice preamp into high-end speakers will know, there's no substitute. Yet, 83% of revenue in the music industry comes from streaming, which compresses the crap out of the audio and ruins any "magic."
People don't care about it being authentic. They'll easily get used to AI-generated movie scripts, clothing models, etc.
The quality degradation is immaterial to most.
One thing I don’t yet understand about Mastodon—how can we be sure the account is who they say they are?
Is verification simply done through external links in the user profile? Is there a plan for any sort of obvious verification method so users can trust the identity of the poster?
