ZDFRecycling nuclear waste is saving ressources and space in the final repository. Germany and Swizerland should legalize it again.
I got invited for an interview. So if you speak german and want to lern more about nuclear power, you can do so here:

YouTubeBut it actually makes sense, considering that the dose range was between 20 and 500 mSv and the cancer incidence with the linear no threshhold model of 5% / Sv would yield an increased cancer rate < 2.5 %. Concidering that nowerdays between 30% and 40% of people get cancer at least once during their lifetime, this is negliglible. Further knowing that the linear model vastly overestimates the cancer rate from low radiation doses, this result does not only seem likely, but accurate.
Would anyone believe me when I said that there was no higher incidence of cancer for the liquidators of chernobyl?
Did you know that the High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor in Japan passed more than 150 h of continous hydrogen production?
The reactor is operating since 1998 and is a high temperature gas cooled reactor.
The nice thing about #nuclear is that many of these concepts dont just exist on paper, but have been tried and tested in real life.

Of course I forgot to mention the awesome CANDU reactor! Great reactor, can use natural uranium 10/10
There is even a programme, where spent fuel which has too high burnup for regular reactors is reused in CANDUs

Otherwise, Sodium fast reactors are great, because we have lots of operational experience with them, like Phenix, Supephenix and BN 800. The properties of Sodium are not the nicest however unfortunately, because it ignites in contact with air 😅
I am a great fan of the KERENA design for Boiling water reactor, it has an ingenious system which makes it passively safe. I should explain it in a later post. Originally designed by Siemens / Areva, it has unfortunately never seen the light of day 🥲
