@gruber No, that actually *is* evidence that Zuck nixed parental controls.

1) It is not PROOF, but it *is* evidence.

2) It is hearsay evidence, to be sure. But we casually accept hearsay evidence all the time. And at other times we decide it's not good enough. Doesn't keep it from being evidence.

In a court of law or in our own lives, we often have to weigh contradictory evidence. But pointing out that something is hearsay does not disprove it.

@caseyliss excellent use of “stop trying to make fetch happen.”

@siracusa Indonesia is like the fourth largest country in the world, with something like 300 million people.

It is by no means a small country.

It’s a white country. It is not a rich country. But it is a giant country.

It should not be dismissed with a hand wave instead of an explanation.

@atpfm two old terms:

Jingle Fallacy: the mistake of thinking that because two terms sound quite similar, they refer to the same idea.

Jangle Fallacy: The mistake of thinly hat because two terms sound different that they refer to different things.

These two terms (jangle and jingle fallacy) are nearly 100 years old, and underutilized.

@atpfm

1) Nope. I was never that guy.

When I was interested, I showed interest.

2) I think I saw a camp counselor do that to butter corn before 1983. 50-50 shot. Maybe 81 or 82. Maybe 83 or 84. I just don’t know.

@atpfm

1) There’s no way that they are stopping with just those lanuguages for the expansion of Fitness+ lanaugeas, right?

2)Would you rather they did deep fakes? Would you rather they just dubbed?

@siracusa not INTERNALLY expandable.

Thunderbolt five makes computer computers very expandable externally.

@siracusa there was no sample size that is big enough to magically create representativeness short of 100%.

Selection bias is real, an incredibly important.

There is something different about steam users that makes them use steam.

Imagine doing a survey of all the white people in the United States. That’s a huge number and over 50% of the population. But it’s not representative.

@siracusa 1) no, this settlement does NOT cost Anthropic far less if they had paid up front.

2) settlement is almost never include an admission of wrongdoing. Getting that will get you less money.

@siracusa Preposition usage:

* Legal settlements are ‘with’ or ‘between.’

* Legal settlements are never ‘against.’

They are just contracts between two (or more) parties that include a term to agree that particular legal claims are henceforth forfeited.

The only time there’s a contract *against* you is when two OTHER parties are doing something to you.

So, “We just agreed to a settlement for $1.5B (with them)” or “There’s a legal settlement between them.”

Not ‘against.’
