I’m just your every-day computer geek with interests in homelabbing and retrocomputing, especially vintage Macintoshes.
@mac84tv I scrubbed the board pretty well with IPA, and plugging speakers in work just fine. My working guess is that whatever internal circuit/switch controls shutting the internal speaker off when external speakers are connected is at fault. Any ideas where that lives?
Coming in just under the wire for #MARCHintosh is the successful recap of my Mac IIci! It was my first time doing surface mount work and it went pretty well. I credit the numerous times I’ve watched @mac84tv and @thisdoesnotcomp demonstrate it on YouTube for not making any major mistakes. Two issues remain - the internal speaker doesn’t work, and the screen output doesn’t always work on first boot. Any tips would be appreciated!
How are the Macs I picked up at VCFMW doing, you might ask? Mixed. I started with the G4 thinking it’d be easier, but I overlooked one teensy thing - I didn’t have an apple keyboard with an eject button to open the disc drive. And then after getting one, the drive refuses to open. I had a sore Apple DVD-ROM drive sitting around (who doesn’t?), so behold this jank just to get an os installed.
I found a @mac84tv, I’ll try to catch up to the others after Macintosh talk.
My first day at #vcfeast was a lot of fun. Got to see some interesting setups and talk with fellow nerds. I even saw a wild @ActionRetro, @mac84tv, and @RonsCompVids! Hopefully tomorrow is a little calmer and I can get a picture with some of those fine gentlemen.
@ActionRetro @RonsCompVids @mac84tv I will be tomorrow!
@tpolecat guilty. I always tried to see how many pages long I could tear off and keep in one piece, then make them. I always thought of them as accordions though.
Only three days of #Marchintosh left! I've got a few more mini projects I want to do, including getting those video cards flashed (already a saga's worth of headaches), getting my PM9500 on to #globaltalk , and building a small Appleshare server using Netatalk.
