I have been an AutoCAD user for a couple of decades now. However I only generate 2D drawings for schematics so I am not really an expert. I have moved to another CAD program which still allows the purchase of a permanent license instead of subscription. It's great software which allows me to still use lisp and customizations similar to AutoCAD. I would love to see some of these smaller companies make a move to Linux. A whole new market waiting!

Most would point to the lack of the "standard" proprietary apps as the reason why #Linux still has a small marketshare on the desktop. So, the question is: does Linux need more proprietary software to grow and be suitable for everyone, or should we keep to free and #opensource software to ensure these applications get better, faster?

@anitanapraia Openoffice, LibreOffice are 2 of the most popular. I have used both and have not missed out on anything.

I would love to see people in the US more open to other alternatives. My kids were forced to use Google docs in school. Even after graduation they still use it even though there are better and free alternatives to it.
