The values of patriarchy are buried in the very plots of our stories. New plots are needed.' — Karen Joy Fowler
@Smutty_Guy Eyes, nape of the neck (especially with wisps of hair falling over it), forearms, thighs, curves (the outside curve of the breast, the waist-transitioning-to-hip curve, the hips-transitioning-to-thighs curve, the lower-back-transitioning-to-ass curve) . Nicely muscled arms. Expressive hands. The look of a curvy woman in a pencil skirt and heels.

As we approach the 13th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United, it has never been more clear that our court system needs reform.

Indy_SAGE today has some (slightly) good news + very instructive special feature on filtration, ventilation, masks and so on. Such a great social institution. We could live in a healthy civilised country. https://www.independentsage.org

friends: if @saltphoenix & i were to organize a solarpunk hackercamp at her off-grid farm here on the island sometime in august or maybe october, would you be interested in coming? and if so, what might you be interested in learning/doing?

possible activities:
* assemble a new solar power setup from stuff already on the farm
* learn tropical tree care & pruning
* learn about animal care: goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, guinea hens, livestock guardian dogs
* build a cabin or other structure appropriate for a tropical climate
* how to set up & maintain water catchments
* composting & management of human outputs
* farm visits
* ???

it would be a camping situation w/food included. not sure yet what the cost might be as it depends on how many people would come & for how long. for now we're just gauging potential interest.

@ClimateHuman

What did you do once you knew?

Getting started! Got a USB powered fan fixed to the small CPU water cooling block, tubing that fit out the box, and a water pump that runs off USB. This all runs off this small solar charging battery bank. Now I have to design the lower reservoir!
#solarpunk

I’m gonna start off with a simple bucket for the lower reservoir and test it in a tent to see how fast ice would melt. Then see about adding a smaller bucket with a wall of spray foam insulation to see if that will keep things colder longer. Then the idea is to make the peltier unit and see how that compares to the ice water driven cooler, then create a hybrid unit so we can cut the need for ice and see how well it works. There are other variations like making a zeer pot passive cooling reservoir half buried in the dirt but that’s more of an experimental thing. We need this to be repeatable and accessible in the city and areas with concrete.

Once we have designs and proof of concepts, we can document it, create jigs and tools to make or 3D print to mass produce them. All free and open source. These portable off grid AC units are to help the houseless in the brutal Texas summers.

Review article on long covid, really good (I’ve read about 60% of it so far)

Nothing about what we know so far makes me think masking is unnecessary or over-cautious.

I live my life without fear, masking in all shared indoor spaces. I’d like to be able to do more—but I wish more people understood that masks don’t have to be a reminder to be afraid.

Masks can be the opposite: the reason we don’t need to worry. That’s what it is for me.

Long COVID: major findings, mechanisms and recommendations - Nature Reviews Microbiology

Long COVID is an often debilitating illness of severe symptoms that can develop during or following COVID-19. In this Review, Davis, McCorkell, Vogel and Topol explore our knowledge of long COVID and highlight key findings, including potential mechanisms, the overlap with other conditions and potential treatments. They also discuss challenges and recommendations for long COVID research and care.

@annaraven Can I ask what you didn't like about the tumbler? I'm worried that if it's not physically easy to turn the compost, I'll just never do it.
